Chinese National Conference
From 21-24 March 14 people from 5 Uniting ChurchChinese congregations gathered at Bulayu House, Centre for Ministry, NSW Members of the Chinese National Conference brought with them the pain, and confusion of their congregations in relation to the issue of possible ordination of praciticing homosexual people. The conference agreed on a statement which they wish to have conveyed to the Assembly Standing Committee.The National Conference included sessions with Dr Dean Drayton and the General Secretary, Terence Corkin. In addition a day and a half was spent with Dr Chris Budden and Meg Herbert doing a UCA Ethos and Polity course. Rev Longpin Lo of the Taiwanese congregation in Brisbane said "I wish I had been able to attend such a course three and a half years ago when I first arrived in Australia". The National Conference elected Peter Teo, a pastor at the South Camberwell Chinese congregation in Melbourne to be the new chairperson and Rev Kau Lee, minister of the Chinese National Conference to be Secretary. The conference and agreed to hold their next meeting in 2006 in Melbourne to take place prior to the next National Consultation on Cross-cultural Ministry.
