- Why do we ordain some people?
- Who do only some people preside at communion and baptism?
- What’s the difference between a Lay Pastor and a Community
Minister?
- How are we different from other churches?
- How do we best order our ministry?
- Are we letting too many lay people preside at the sacraments?
- What are your questions and ideas?
These conversations are happening constantly around the church
and have been raised in a number of ways at meetings of our Presbyteries,
Synods and Assembly. 2005 has been set aside for a Time for Conversation
about ministry in the Uniting Church in Australia. These and other
issues will be talked about, discussed and debated as our church
seeks to determine how God wants us to order our ministries at this
time in history.
The conversations will feature discussion papers, debates, Bible
studies, e-chats and consultations in Congregations and beyond.
A team will work behind the scenes to gather the collective wisdom
of the church and bring it to the 11th Assembly meeting in 2006.
