Sir Ronald Wilson's address to Victorian Synod 2000 on the theme, The role of the church in contemporary society. I first pay my acknowledgment and deep respect to the Wurundjiri people as the traditional owners of this land, and to their ancestors for the love and care of the land over many centuries. The theme of tonight is, as you will know, the role of the church in contemporary society. The ... don't want to spend too much on developing a thesis or my theological understanding of that theme because I wan to get on and do something I haven't done before with respect to the history of the stolen generations. But first let me say that there are many hints in the scriptures in the role of the church in contemporary society and we've heard many of them alluded to tonight.
