Ambon - it's time to act!
Tonight, 24 June 2000, the terror continues in Ambon. Jihad militia, with the open support of the Indonesian army, are attacking and burning the city. Please take time to pray. Also consider taking other urgent action. The Ambonese community is appealing to us to help them. The world must take notice of what’s happening in Ambon. (1) The Muslim Jihad militia are attacking and burning the city with the support of the Indonesian army. (2) The Jihad militia continue to arrive in Ambon even though the President, Abdurrurahman Wahid, has ordered this to stop. Yesterday morning another 2 to 3,000 Jihad troops arrived by ship in Ambon city. (3) More arms (guns, grenades etc.) are being smuggled into Ambon at this very minute. (4) Law and order has completely broken down in Ambon. There is no security for the weak and the vulnerable. (5) Tens of thousands of people have been displaced. Food, medical care and shelter is in short supply. (6) Ambon faces a human disaster similar to what took place in Dili during September 1999. In fact the disaster could be far worse. Please take time to help by urgently faxing or emailing some of the addresses listed below. In your fax/email call for the following:
(a) to monitor the withdrawal of the Jihad militia and the army.
