FIJI COUNCIL OF CHURCHES
MEDIA RELEASE 1. In view of the current turn of events in our country, that is to say, that the President had stood aside to allow the Military in particular, the Commander of the Royal Fiji Military Forces to assume, and thereby assumed, executive authority as at 1800 hours, Monday, 30th May 2000, the Leaders of the Fiji Council of Churches have met this morning Tuesday, 31st May 2000, at 10.30am to discuss matters and ways in which the Churches could be of assistance in restoring peace, harmony, goodwill, love and caring among all the people of Fiji. 2. In their resolve, the Leaders re-affirm their continuing faith in God and appeal to all the citizens and residents of Fiji to continue to pray for God’s guidance and protection for all citizens of Fiji, including those whose lives are being threatened and in danger. 3. The Leaders wish to remind all its members and all the citizens and residents of Fiji, of the need to remember our Lord’s call to love one another and our neighbours, especially those who desperately need our love and protection during these trying and testing times we are going through. 4. Further, the Leaders wish to appeal to all its members and all the people of Fiji to please remain calm, peaceful, loving and caring for one another as human beings. 5. Finally, the Leaders are appealing to all political groups and other organisations to genuinely make efforts to resolve the current crisis, for the good of all. 6. God Bless all the people of Fiji.
