The Ministerial Education Commission has national responsibility in the area of theological education within the Uniting Church. It:

  • recognises colleges that are approved training centres and maintains oversight of these
  • sets pre-requisites for admission as candidates for various ministries
  • prescribes minimum requirements for courses of study
  • issues certificates for completion of studies for various ministries
  • encourages ecumenical education
  • recommends to Assembly, policies and standards for continuing education

The Commission's Executive is located in New South Wales but the full Commission meets nationally once a year. The MEC has various working groups located in different Synods. These working groups consider matters and advise the MEC and its Executive. The Executive and working groups are located as follows:

  • Executive Commission - Victoria
  • Working Group on Education for Ministry of the Word - Revd Dr Anna Grant-Henderson  SA
  • Working Group on Education for Ministry of Deacon - Revd. Jonathan Barker
  • Working Group on Education for Youth Worker - Mr Bruce Mullan QLD
  • Working Group on Education for Lay Preacher - Mr George Olney WA
  • Working Group on Education for Lay Pastor - Revd Barbara Bailey QLD
  • Working Group on Education for Community Minister - (we do not have anyone as yet for this position)
  • Working Group on Continuing Education  - Revd (Deacon) Gay Loftus
