Location of Records Prior to Union- [HTML format posted Jan 2003] - This document explains the location of the records of the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregtional churches which were produced prior to the Uniting Church Union in 1977.

  • increase awareness of the need to preserve and catalogue the records of the Assembly and its agencies;
  • collect all records of the Assembly and its agencies for inclusion in the Assembly archives;
  • catalogue and properly conserve all collected material;
  • set up a central registry of all Uniting Church archival records held throughout Australia.

Activities

Located in NSW, the committee uses the Mitchell Library as the main depository for the national records of the church. The committee is responsible for collecting, sorting and cataloguing the available material before it is sent.

The Ministers’ Beneficiary Fund records remain in Melbourne. While those of the Australian Inland Mission and Frontier Services are housed at the National Library in Canberra.

Resources

The committee is available to:

  • answer research enquiries;
  • promote research and publication of the history of the Uniting Church and its parent churches;
  • advise on appropriate methods of record keeping.
