Defence Force Chaplaincy

Role of the National Committee for Defence Force Chaplaincy's (NCDFC)

NCDFC provides members of the defence force and their families, together with patients and staff of repatriation general hospitals, with Christian ministry in order to meet their spiritual needs and works collaboratively with the Department of Defence to develop character building from a Christian perspective.

Activities

The committee meets quarterly and comprises an executive, members of synod Defence Force Chaplaincy Committees and other co-opted members. The convenor of the NCDFC is automatically the Uniting Church member of the Ecumenical Religious Advisory Committee to the Services.

The NCDFC provides ministers of the word for chaplaincy in the three arms of the defence force and the Veterans’Affairs Department.

On behalf of the Assembly, the committee’s convenor is responsible for the care of chaplains and their families. This involves visitation around the commonwealth. Another role is assisting chaplains return to parish ministry.
